IRgA Prepares for 80th Annual Convention and Trade Show

Steve Bova, CAE
Executive Director

Happy New Year from the IRgA! After taking time to reflect on the successes of the past year, the IRgA shifts our focus to the New Year, eager to build on the positive momentum created.

2006 will mark the 80th anniversary of the IRgA's Annual Convention and Trade Show. The largest industry-wide education and networking event will take place May 10-12 at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center in Kissimmee, Florida, which borders Orlando and the Walt Disney World properties.

Registration is now open! An e-mail blast was previously sent to your attention with details. You may click here to register. Allow me offer a few highlights that will make this year's convention our best ever!

  • Registration fees have been held flat with an early bird incentive which will remain open until March 27.
  • For those who cannot attend the entire convention and trade show, a one-day pass is offered at a competitive value. Day attendees are free to attend all educational programs, visit the trade show, and attend any scheduled social activities, including the evening reception. Last year, receptions were made available on a separate basis, and the Board decided to include them with the day package.
  • A companion package has been created for those traveling with spouses or guests. The package offers a $50 savings from registering for each social activity.
  • The IRgA has partnered with industry affiliated organizations, which will hold meetings before and after the convention. Working closely with our industry allies reduces travel time and expense for our attendees, and brings more people together.
  • Exhibits on Friday have been moved to the morning to allow for a better flow and also so exhibitors can network at the evening cocktail reception.
  • Based on attendee feedback, continental breakfasts have been added both Thursday morning and Friday in the exhibit hall.

We are currently finalizing the educational program and will post details on the website as soon as it is completed. More information about the convention is available by clicking here. Get ready for what promises to be the industry event of they year!

Going In-house
Seven tips for making more money with facilities management

By Ed Avis

Worried about losing customers who want to take their printing in-house? Why not just go in-house with them?

Facilities management, FM for short, is a fancy way of saying that your reprographics shop runs the in-plant print shop of a large client. FM has long been part of the reprographer's arsenal. It is a way to serve a customer on his location, and to ensure that his printing work goes to you.

Facilities management these days means more than just running a printer inside a firm. Sure, some FM arrangements are just that, but innovative reprographers have learned that they can capture more business by taking over other office operations, from running the mailroom to repairing the computers. It's all part of making yourself indispensable to your clients. If you manage your clients' document flow-from printing to copying to archiving - and help manage their office, you're in good.

The full article on this subject will appear in the Jan/Feb 2006 issue of REPRO REPORT.
