Why the IRgA? Why Dallas?
|
The IRgA's 81st Annual Convention and Trade Show will be held May 9-11 at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas, which is nearby the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and a short drive to downtown Dallas. If you're not currently registered to attend the industry's largest event of the year, here are a few reasons why you should click here to learn more and to register - TODAY! Please indicate source code EM3 when you register online.
- Awesome Education Program. You won't be disappointed in the level of quality in the breakout sessions or the expanded general sessions that feature a famous motivational duo in Dan and Fred Akers; Chief Economist of the AIA, Kermit Baker; and Roger Staubach, whose business career is perhaps even more impressive than his Hall of Fame football career. Click here for the education program.

With the quality level of the convention and trade show being the main attraction, the event could be held almost anywhere. So why Dallas?
- It's easy to get to. Dallas is centrally located, so the travel time is reduced compared to when the IRgA is held in the East or the West. Dallas is a major airline hub which means more direct flight options and potentially lower airfares (I just booked my trip for under $200 round trip). Click here to book your travel.
- If you liked the Gaylord Palms last year, chances are you'll like the Gaylord Texan even better! The theme at the Texan sets up for better networking opportunities at Texan Station, a huge sports bar, and at the Glass Cactus, a brand new nightclub on property. Also, there's a pool, jogging trail, spa, biking, boating, fishing and much more.
- Dallas is a world-class city. It's more than J.R. and Southfork Ranch. You probably won't have to leave the resort, but if you do, there's Historic Downtown Grapevine - a destination for wine, shopping, entertainment, dining, galleries and a complete selection of services. Downtown Dallas is less than 20 minutes away.
There are many resons to attend the IRgA Convention and Trade Show. Make your plans today, and I'll see you in May!

Your Company's Real Value
By Brett Scully and Tina Lemanowicz
Since the onset of the information highway, consumers have had access to a vast array of resources that can aid them into pricing big-ticket items, such as residential property and even a new or used car.
When an owner is looking to sell his or her business, one of the more frustrating aspects is finding the right value for the firm. An easy method for calculating value is to use the "floor" price for a company in a method called "book value." Book value is basically the price of the firm if it were to shut its doors, sell all of its assets and relieve all liabilities as stated by the balance sheet. For example, a firm has $400,000 in accounts receivables, $50,000 in inventory, and $250,000 in fixed assets (such as print equipment and automobiles). If this same firm owes $75,000 in payables and another $125,000 to leasing companies and banks, the firm would have a "book value" of $500,000 (assets-liabilities). However, the only reason book value would be useful in valuing the firm in this situation is if the business had not realized a profit year in and year out. On the other hand, book value would be relevant for bank-related activities such as securing a loan.
However, if a firm realizes profits on a regular basis, selling at book value price would be understating its true worth. A firm has value from its "goodwill," or value above book value, because of its ability to make money.
