IRgA Confirms 2008 Convention at Paris Las Vegas
|
It's official. The IRgA's 2008 Annual Convention & Trade Show will be held May 13-15 at Paris Las Vegas. As you may recall, the IRgA convention was displaced when the association was informed by Caesars Palace that the location of its trade show was being torn down in order for the property to construct their new tower.
The IRgA has been working with representatives within Harrah's Entertainment, which owns both Caesars Palace and Paris Las Vegas. The result is a seamless transition that will provide the opportunity for the trade show to continue on its growth path. We would have been very tight on space at Caesars Palace. |

One Day Earlier
It's important to note that the convention will be held one day earlier this year, and it will be on a Tuesday-Thursday pattern. This one-time shift has been met with optimism by the exhibitors, who can move in and out without spending part of the weekend on site. It has also been met positively by the affinity groups, which would likely hold their meetings Friday-Saturday. Click here to get a high level glimpse of the schedule of events.
The IRgA looks forward to returning to Las Vegas in May, as both the vendor and reprographer communities have expressed a strong interest in this location. We are working diligently to make the 2008 event a huge success.
As always, on behalf of the Board of Directors, I look forward to your input so the IRgA can deliver more value to you and your company. Please e-mail info@irga.com, or you may contact me directly at sbova@irga.com.

Inside the IRgA
IRgA Member Benefit Feature:
3rd Quarter Rates Below Reprographer Expectations
IRgA/Baird Release First Economic Trends Study Results
Reprographers, responding to the IRgA's first quarterly economic trends survey, indicate that business conditions could be better, but they say prospects for the future are brighter.
The survey, conducted in partnership with Robert W. Baird & Company, gauges reprographer input on the current and future state of their business. Sixty-two responses were received, representing all regions and roughly $500 million in annual revenue. Key findings include:
- Q3 revenue increased, but roughly 5 out of 10 respondents indicated revenue was below expectations.
- Revenue is expected to increase in the coming six months.
- Repondents were maintaining their list price during the third quarter.
- Aside from the residential construction sector, respondents indicated the retail sector as most concerning.
The survey is a member benefit of the IRgA and provides insight on the conditions and trends within the industry. The IRgA extends its sincere thanks to those key contacts within member companies who participated in the first study. We encourage all member companies to take about five minutes to complete the next survey, which will be sent in January. The more companies that respond, the better will be our benchmarking data.
For more details on the study, IRgA members can click here for the complete and free survey report.
If you are not a current IRgA member company, join or renew your membership so you can take advantage of many IRgA member benefits.

SGIA Survey Shows a Low Rate of On-The-Job Injuries
Most respondents to SGIA's recent survey, 2007 Safety Initiatives, said they didn't have injuries on the job and currently have safety programs in place.
According to the respondents, these programs included the use of protective equipment (78.7 percent), safety rules (70.8 percent), safety training (58.8 percent), safety posters (56.2 percent) and regular safety meetings (46.4 percent).
The survey ran online from late August to September in 2007. Questions covered safety programs, injury causes and production impact. More than 260 imagers participated in the survey and were primarily from the United States. Participants also represented Canada, Mexico, South Korea, India, Europe, the Caribbean, the Middle East and other parts of Asia.
SGIA offers several tools to help foster safety in the specialty imaging community. The Right to Know/PPE Training Program DVD is an employee training aid for specialty graphic imaging companies and can be purchased online at SGIA's Web site, www.sgia.org. SGIA also offers a series of posters and articles highlighting safety issues in the workplace that are free to members and available online.

International Paper Board of Directors Announces Annual Director Elections
The board of directors of International Paper (NYSE: IP) has authorized an amendment to the company's certificate of incorporation to declassify the board of directors and to provide for the annual election of directors. The company's proxy statement will include a proposal to shareholders, recommended by the board, to approve the amendment at the 2008 annual shareholders' meeting.
The directors of International Paper currently are elected by class to staggered three-year terms. If the amendment is approved, declassification will be phased in over a three-year period. Beginning with the 2011 annual meeting, all directors will be elected annually for one-year terms. The phased-in approach allows for a simplified transition under both New York law and the company's certificate of incorporation, and provides needed continuity throughout the company's transformation plan.
Separately, the board of directors also unanimously authorized an amendment to the company's certificate of incorporation to provide for the election of directors by majority vote, following a 2007 shareholder proposal, endorsed by the board, in favor of the change. The company's proxy statement will include a proposal to shareholders, recommended by the board, to approve this amendment at the 2008 annual shareholders' meeting.

REPRO REPORT Feature
We Want You!
Hope to be acquired? Plan for it now.
By Ed Avis
When Chuck Gremillion sat down with his siblings in 1991 to hammer out a strategic plan for their reprographics firm, A&E - The Graphics Complex in Houston, one thing was clear: at some point they would have to sell the company.
The Gremillions revised their strategic plan almost annually, and about a decade after making the first one, they decided it was almost time to sell. But they felt they weren't quite big enough yet, so they poured their energy into growth.
