Best Practices Statements
In the 80+ years since the reprographics industry was formally organized under a trade association called the International Association of Blue Print and Allied Industries, no industry organization has attempted to document its best practices – until now.
In 2005, the International Reprographic Association (IRgA) Board of Directors approved the formation of a Digital Services Committee to produce the first best practices statement for our industry. The committee’s charge was to define digital services as they relate to the reprographics industry, gain a snapshot of what digital services are within the industry and develop best practices for the use of digital services within a reprographics environment.
Several years ago, the association developed industry trade customs that included a Standard Area Chart to be used when determining square foot usage. While introduced as an industry guideline, reprographics shops nationwide have accepted this chart as the benchmark for determining square footage. The IRgA now begins to document what are considered to be best practices within our industry. The first such statement addresses Charging for Digital Services. The IRgA intends to research other issues and develop guidelines and best practices in those areas as well.

"These statements are precedent-setting for our industry and add a new level of professionalism in reprographics."
