Jeff Wells, HP

The IRgA Workshop in September was packed with good information, including a presentation by Jeff Wells, Solutions Architect, HP PageWide XL, about HP’s innovative new vectorization system that uses artificial intelligence.
He noted that about 23 percent of scans end up being vectorized, and 45 percent of those are currently vectorized manually. By using HP’s AI vectorization, between 60 percent and 80 percent of a scanned document can be automatically vectorized. And with each scan, the system gets better because of HP’s machine learning.
The system is scanner-agnostic, meaning any scanned plan is fine. Wells said a training session of about 45 minutes is all it takes to get started.
Wells explained that reprographics firms can access HP’s AI vectorization system by uploading a scan to the system’s portal; about 20 minutes later a vector file is available. There is no fee involved until the user decides to download the file. The system is designed for reprographics firms to resell vector files to end users – the end users themselves are not being marketed to.
