How far along is your firm in its lifespan? Whether you are just starting out or already have retirement in sight, the 2019 APDSP Convention will help you prepare for the inevitable transitions your firm will face. Building value – either for long-term growth or to get ready to sell your company – will be the focus of the entire program.

Meet Your Friends
The convention will kick off with a reception on Friday evening, October 25, from 5-7 in the Anchor Pool Area. This will be the perfect opportunity to reconnect with your reprographics friends from across the country. Everyone in the industry will be in town, since PRINTING United, RSA, and ReproMAX will be holding their meetings in Dallas as well. The APDSP reception will be open to all industry participants. Vendors will have tables lining the perimeter of the room so that you can learn about their latest products and services.
Our event will have an international flair as well, because the German reprographics association, motio, will bring a group. Come prepared to exchange ideas with our overseas counterparts.
Saturday: Building Value
The educational component of the event will kick off on Saturday morning with a presentation by Joseph Szobody, president of ReproConnect. Szobody will discuss the opportunities he sees for reprographers in the digital age, based on the trends his company is able to identify from their hundreds of reprographics clients. He has a unique perspective on the reprographics industry, so his observations will definitely be worth hearing.
Next will be a presentation by Mark Hahn, managing director of Graphic Arts Advisors, LLC, a boutique strategic financial advisory and consulting firm that specializes in printing companies. Hahn’s presentation – “14 Keys to Value” – draws on his 40 years of experience on the business side of the graphic arts industry. Hahn knows what companies are looking for when acquiring a printer, and he’ll share that information so that attendees can get their shops in great shape for an eventual sale.
Saturday afternoon will begin with expert guidance on preparing a family firm for a transition by one the world’s leading experts on family business, Jim Hutcheson. Hutcheson is the founder of ReGeneration, a firm devoted to increasing shareholder value and improving communication in family enterprises. Hutcheson has advised more than 250 family businesses across a wide range of industries, and he has written two books: Portraits of Success: 9 Keys To Sustaining Value In Any Business and The Family Business Road Map To Peace Of Mind.
Hutcheson’s presentation will be about how to prepare a family firm for succession – making sure all the pieces are in place for it, even if it’s not imminent. He will complement his presentation with interactive audience involvement.
To conclude the Saturday events, a panel of APDSP members who have been through transitions of their own will offer their views on how to prepare.
Overall, the event will be essential for any shop owner who sees the future and realizes that a transition will eventually happen. Don’t miss it!
Registration is $199 for APDSP members and $249 for nonmembers. Registration is open, and if you register before August 26, you will receive a $50 Early Bird Discount. Firms registering more than one person receive an additional $25 off each registration past the first one. Click here to register.
