EnvisionTEC, Inc., a manufacturer of 3D printing equipment in Dearborn, Michigan, is establishing a dealer network and counts reprographics shops among its preferred partners.
12 Years Old
The company has been in business since 2002 and its printers are designed for creating prototypes of parts and other highly detailed work. Paul Stevenson, who is the Southern Region channel manager for EnvisionTec, says about a third of the company’s sales are to educational institutions that teach mechanical engineering and design-related courses, and the rest to aerospace firms, mechanical engineers, and manufacturers.
Its Perfactory line uses digital light projection technology and creates products in nine materials, such as Biocompatible Clear and three casting materials.
“The Perfactory line of printers … is gaining traction in the engineering departments because of its versatility and ease of use,” Stevenson says. “The Perfactory printer make parts with the highest resolution, smooth surfaces, and detail unseen.”
EnvisionTEC also makes 3D printers using Scan, Spin, and Selectively Photocure (3SP) technology. 3SP is used in the company’s three large-platform printers, which print objects up to 18”x20”x18”.
Seeking Dealers
The company previously sold direct to end users, but is developing a limited dealer network in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
“As of today we have signed nine dealers and we continue looking for dealers to fill in the gaps,” Stevenson says. “As the 3D printing segment continues to grow we are identifying companies to represent our line from various backgrounds and reprographics is certainly one of them. The most successful dealers are the ones who have moved their sales into the technological products (software, technical services, and capital equipment).”
Stevenson says prospective dealers need to attend a four-day training session in Dearborn and be willing to commit financially to a demo machine.
“Those with the ability to market and attend tradeshows in their area, and willing to put some hard work and effort into learning and selling will without a doubt be successful,” he says. “We are limiting the number we want to sign to make sure that there is enough business for everyone to be successful.”
