Wynit Distribution, a 31-year-old tech distributor that served many reprographics companies, abruptly closed the doors of its Greenville, NC Division, which included wide-format printing sales, on Friday, August 25.
"Due to a number of unexpected financial issues combined with a disappointing holiday selling season, WYNIT Distribution LLC announced a reorganization today that will close its Wholesale Distribution Division based locally," a press release from the company said.
The release said Wynit is maintaining its software publishing and supply chain divisions in Minnesota.
Art Woo, who has been a familiar person to many in the wide-format field in his position as leader of Wynit's wide-format sales, has moved to National/Azon as a national account representative.
"With over 30 years of experience in wide format printing, product distribution and reseller partnerships with manufacturers like Canon, Contex and Gfp, Art brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the National / AZON team," according to a statement from National/Azon.
Reached by phone, Woo says the wide-format division of Wynit was doing fine. Wide-format was only one of many product categories at Wynit; others included home office technology, marine electronics, and 3D printing.
Wynit employed 140 people in its Greenville division, and earlier in August had been named one of South Carolina's "Best Places to Work" by the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce.
“We are grateful for the welcome Greenville and South Carolina gave to us,” said Wynit CEO Pete Richichi in the press release. “This is not what we wanted or expected. Unfortunately, we were unable to adjust fast enough to unforeseen changes. This was purely a financial decision. Our hope is we emerge a better company.”
