Achim Carius, managing director of the German reprographics association, has issued a press release asking that HP and Memjet settle their patent dispute (click here to read the Memjet release about the German court injunction against PageWide).
"The patent dispute between the two American manufacturers Hewlett-Packard and Memjet Technology cannot be disputed on the backs of European customers," said Carius, whose trade association, motio, includes members in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Carius, who is an attorney, adds that his association can clearly feel that dealers and buyers of HP-branded PageWide large format printers are confused by the recent developments.
“The judicial ban on advertising, import and sales threatens to escalate to the next level,” he says. “If Memjet should win at trial, the manufacturer may demand the recall of PageWide Printers and definitive removal from the channels of commerce in accordance with § 140a (3) German Patent Law.”
Carius appeals to the two parties to settle the patent conflict out of court in the short term, as a prolonged stalemate could negatively affect users and dealers.
