Many reprographics firms lease equipment, and many also arrange for leases of equipment for their clients. One way they can save tax dollars on those leases is by taking advantage of IRS Section 179. This rule allows a company to deduct the full cost of some purchased assets in the first year, and it also allows that deduction for some leased equipment. That means you could get the full deduction without plunking down the cash for the equipment, and/or you could help your customers do the same, making the equipment more affordable.
The deadline to get the deduction for 2021 is December 31 (the equipment must be financed and put into service by that date). Before you take this step, be sure to consult with your tax advisor.
