Walk-up business can be highly advantageous to a repro firm – it can bring in cash from customers who might not normally be regular customers, such as consumers seeking “happy birthday” banners and such. But walk-up customers can also be a hassle, if you need to spend a lot of time holding their hand through the process of creating and ordering a print.
FotoZoomer, a new APDSP vendor member, has a solution to that situation. FotoZoomer offers kiosks as well as desktop software solutions that allow regular consumers to easily design and order business cards, signs, banners, canvas prints and more by themselves, with no assistance required from the shop personnel. The kiosks – placed in a repro shop’s lobby or by the front counter, for example -- ensure that the consumers get exactly what they want, and the print order zips directly to your printers.
“FotoZoomer helps repro businesses tap into a market that is hungry for service,” says Eric Steadham, the company’s owner. “Walk-in consumer business like this can be a solid new revenue source.”
Three Potential Revenue Models
The revenue potential from FotoZoomer goes beyond the kiosk. First, the same software that’s installed in the kiosk can be installed on a PC that sits on the counter of a repro firm. That reduces the firm’s expense but still allows them to offer the service.
Another potential revenue source is acting as a “hub” for other FotoZoomer locations. For example, Steadham says many kiosks have been installed in Mail and Parcel centers as well as balloon and party stores, which is an obvious location for making celebratory banners and signs. But most of these locations do not have large-format printers installed, so the orders need to be fulfilled by a nearby print provider. APDSP members could act as those providers.
Finally, APDSP members could resell the software to other businesses interested in offering the service, such as small-format print shops or the above-mentioned balloon and party stores. The software can be sold on a subscription basis, which provides on-going revenue to the dealer.
The Offer
APDSP members can tap into FotoZoomer’s profit potential at a members-only discount. Steadham is offering 50 percent off installation and $10 off per month for the first year of the full software version of the desktop suite. There are other software solutions that FotoZoomer offers that are designed to fit in certain environments that have offers as well.
“We want to build a long-term relationship with APDSP members,” Steadham says. “It helps all of us to be able to expand the market for large-format color printing.”
