The reprographics market showed continued growth during the fourth quarter of 2014, but slower than during any earlier quarter. The IRgA Index, which measures growth in the reprographics industry quarter-by-quarter, stood at 59 for services to the traditional AEC market and 68 for services to the non-AEC market for the fourth quarter of this year. Any number over 50 indicates growth, so these numbers show solid growth. However, third quarter numbers were 64 and 70, respectively, and the second quarter numbers were 71 and 82, respectively.
The fourth quarter 2014 Index was based on a survey of IRgA members sent in early February. Forty-five reprographics shop members answered the survey. Of the respondents, 17 reported growth in their AEC business over the previous quarter; 18 said that business was flat compared to the previous quarter; and 9 reported a drop in that business. For non-AEC business, 22 reported growth, 17 said business was flat, and 6 reported a decline. Interestingly, in both categories, significantly fewer people reported a drop in business, and slightly fewer people reported an increase. The middle ground -- no change -- was bigger for the quarter in both categories.
Specific details about the survey, such as a geographic breakdown and a detailed breakdown by type of job, will be emailed to respondents who completed the survey and Bronze, Silver, and Gold members. Look for the next survey in May.
