Editor's Note: Drytac recently rejoined APDSP as a vendor member after a brief absence. In this Q&A, Drytac President Marc Oosterhuis explains what the company has been up to lately.
APDSP: Drytac has been little quiet on the reprographics front lately. What have you been up to?
Oosterhuis: Just like many reprographers, Drytac has had to adapt to the changing technologies, especially in print. While we continue to offer a wide range of overlaminating
films and mounting adhesives (yes, even still dry mounting tissue) our recent growth has come from self-adhesive print media. Three years ago, we purchased two additional coating lines in North America, so we are now producing products up to 63” wide and are able to respond more quickly to market changes and demands.
What makes Drytac different in this broad print media category?
Oosterhuis: Our focus has been on self-adhesive print media and then primarily for window, wall, and floor application. We noticed a trend that many end-user customers were looking for products that were very easy to install, even by amateur installers, and that could be cleanly removed weeks, months, or sometimes even a year later.
For example, one of our products (SpotOn) is used at a very large coffee chain and when the store receives the window decals, the baristas, who only moments ago were making a double vanilla latte, are tasked with putting these graphics on the windows. So it has to be very easy to apply bubble and wrinkle free and look like it was done by a professional.
You just rejoined APDSP. What was the catalyst to reach back out to our members?
Oosterhuis: We developed a new self-adhesive print media specially for the HP Pagewide printers aptly called “SpotOn SynPaper for Pagewide XL” (click here for more information about SpotOn media). This product will be released at ISA in Las Vegas, and it is already part of the profiles loaded on the printer. Our new tagline is, “We make the world stick together, ” and we are determined to become “top of mind” when your readers are looking for any self-adhesive print media products.
