IRgA's new logo
In an extremely tight vote, the IRgA logo above has been chosen as the new logo for the association. Thirty-three votes were received, but 15 of them were from non-member companies. Counting all 33 votes, the logo with the more stylized “g” received 15 votes and the logo above received only 14. But as noted on the survey, we weighed member votes greater than non-member votes, and when we excluded the non-members, the count was 8 votes for the logo above and 7 for the other logo. The logo with all capital letters received 4 votes, including 3 from members.
During the voting, long-time IRgA member John Deermount wrote us an email with some interesting history about the logo:
About 40 years ago (when I was on the board) a decision was made to change the association name from IABPAI (International Association of Blue Print and Allied Industries) to the IRA (International Reprographic Association). But there were vehement objections from some of the Irish association members. They objected to the possible confusion with the Irish military organization. To avoid this confusion, the board agreed to add a small “g” to the logo. As a board member, I had to explain the change at an Eastern Regional meeting. That’s where the sh.. hit the fan. That’s how it came about.
Thanks, John, for that bit of history!
And now the association moves on with its semi-new, but still historic, logo!
